One student dead, another injured after stabbing Northside High School in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) – Jacksonville police say one student died and another injured in a stabbing Thursday morning at Northside High School.

Chief Mike Yaniero said a student resource officer called for help at 7:01 a.m. for a report of a physical altercation. Two students were found to have been stabbed just inside a common area of ​​the school.

Yaniero said the SRO was on the scene within 20 seconds and arrested a student.

Medical attention was provided by teachers at the school to those who were injured, the chief said.

Police said the two students were taken to Camp Lejeune Naval Medical Center, where one of them died of his injuries.

Yaniero said he believed a teacher was also injured but was treated by EMS at the scene.

Asked about the use of the weapon in the attack, the chief said it was part of the investigation.

Police say the victim’s next of kin have been notified.

The chief said it was an active investigation.

The school system said classes at Northside High School are canceled for the rest of the day and Friday will be a virtual day. We are told that students will resume face-to-face learning on Tuesday.
