Clip of Paul Sorvino offering to ‘strangle’ Harvey Weinstein resurfaces

He threatened to punch Weinstein.

Amid an outpouring of tributes to screen icon Paul Sorvino, who died of natural causes aged 83 on Monday, one video in particular seemed to resonate with fans: a clip of the ‘Goodfellas’ star threatening to choke the life of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. The old excerpt amassed 126,000 views on Twitter as social media praised the late comedian for standing up to predators.

“It is reprehensible beyond description that women have been treated in this way,” Sorvino told local news outlet KCAL9 at a Golden Globes event in January 2018, addressing the high-profile scandal, in where several actresses – including the actor’s own daughter, Mira Sorvino – stepped forward to accuse Weinstein, 70, of rape, sexual assault or sexual harassment.

“When you have had a phenomenal mother like me, you are automatically a feminist. That’s why I have this wonderful woman,” the ‘Godfather of Harlem’ actor added. “The reality is that anyone who takes advantage of women should be publicly strangled and I will volunteer.”

Social media praised Sorvino for his pro-women stance.

“F-king legend!!” gushed an admiring fan on Twitter, by adding a follow-up tweet, “I wish more men thought and act like that!!”

“Harvey would have swum with the fish” loved another, while a Sorvino fan said“A man defends women!”

Elsewhere in the interview, Sorvino discussed the alleged appalling incident, in which his daughter claimed she was on the Hollywood blacklist for refusing Weinstein’s advances.

“She was turned down, we know that,” the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ star lamented. “It’s a terrible thing. She deserves all the new looks and the chances she may not have had because she has it all, she has it all and she’s a great human being.

In 2017, Sorvino, 54 years old told the New Yorker that Weinstein, 65, attempted to give her a massage and ‘chased her’ into a hotel room in 1995, then invited herself to his apartment a few weeks later, bypassing his doorman and refusing to leave until to what a friend she had invited to ask when her boyfriend arrived.

“I can’t say for sure if [my career] was impacted,” the ‘Summer Of Sam’ actress admitted. “But I won an Oscar with Miramax. Not to continue and act in their films well beyond that does not make sense. I felt like if I had accepted Harvey’s advances, I would have continued to make movies with them, and they were the ones who won the Oscars for that decade.

According to director Peter Jackson, Weinstein blocked Mira Sorvino from being considered for a role in the hit ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.

This did not please his father, who told TMZ in 2018: “If I meet him on the street, he should hope he goes to jail.”

“Because if we meet [one another], I think he’s going to lay on the ground somehow, like magic,” he added. “He’s going to jail. That son of ab—h, good for him if he leaves, because if not, then he has to meet me, and I’ll kill that motherfucker.

He claimed at the time that he only learned sexual harassment and assault and blacklisting the allegations against the “Shakespeare in Love” filmmaker when the public did, saying, “If I had known, he wouldn’t be walking. He’d be in a wheelchair.

“My daughter is a wonderful person,” he said at the time. “A brave and wonderful human being who does not deserve to have been treated like this by this pig. This pig will have its reward. The law will have it. He will go to prison and die in prison. But if he doesn’t…I’ll just slap him. I won’t do anything terrible.

Following the death of his father, Mira tweeted a moving tribute to her late father and champion of women’s rights.

“My father, the great Paul Sorvino, has passed away,” the heartbroken playwright wrote. “My heart is torn – a life of love, joy and wisdom with him is over.

She added: “He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. Sending you love to the stars daddy as you go up.
